Now on to hardware, with the Power Mac G4. A whole new generation will be
released today. Power to Burn is the motto of this new line. Jobs is talking
about coasting along at 500 Mhz for far too long, 18 months. The new G4s
will take it up to 733. This is a new generation of G4s that goes up to 5.5
gigaflops. Four models of G4s, they all have CD-RW drives, they're late to
the party, but they are there. They have 133 Mhz system and memory BUSes.
AGP 4x for graphics and with write combining. They will use NVIDIA graphics
cards in the top three models! All models now have five slots! New audio
system, as well with 10 watt digital amp. This will be 4 PCI slots and an
AGP slot. All the new G4s are totally OS X ready. They have 466 Mhz, 533
Mhz, 667 Mhz, and 733 Mhz, and they're all single processor. You can buy a
533 Mhz dual processor machine if you want. 128 megs in the low end
machines, and 256 in the high end. 30 in the low end, 40 in the mid, 60 in
the high. Rage 128 in the lwest machine, GeForce2MX in the top 3. What's the
super drive listed on the spec sheet of the high end machines? It is a DVD-R
that can burn DVDs to be played on a real consumer DVD player, not the
DVD-RAM.
