BARRY FRANKLIN
In the mid 80¹s, Barry and a friend opened an 8-track recording studio in
North Hollywood. ³One of my recording clients expressed an interest in
writing jingles, so the two of us started cranking out demos for ad
agencies,² he notes. ³During the next several years, we produced music for
National Dairy Board commercials, Disney promo packages, movie trailers,
television scores, and so on. I also got involved in writing music for
production music libraries (those folks who supply soundtracks for corporate
presentations and the like) and, thus far, my music appears on about 70
different CDs. One of the great things about writing production music is the
variety of styles in which I get to write: comedy, holiday, electronica,
drama, romanceŠevery kind of music.²
Moving to Charlottesville, VA, Barry kept up his commercial music
contacts and a full slate of production work. But, in 2004, he started
thinking about producing an entire album of his original compositions. ³All
of my life I¹ve written music for somebody else,² he shares. ³So I decided
to create classically-influenced themes and give them a modern, creative
edge. The challenge was to make them sound evocative and memorable,
comfortably familiar but still new and fresh. I also wanted my arranger and
creative collaborator, Eugene Mishustin, to have a lot of artistic freedom
in terms of how he arranged the pieces.²
The finished recording TIME AND AGAIN may be Barry¹s debut, but is sure
to be only the first of many to come.
TIME AND AGAIN covers a lot of musical ground. Front and center are the
classical influences, but one can also hear touches of pop, jazz, new age,
Latin and other styles. ³What matters to me,² Barry explains, ³is the
emotion that each piece is intended to convey, whether it¹s hope,
wistfulness, happiness or romanticism. It sometimes takes a broad musical
palette of styles and textures to paint these emotional pictures.² This is
what makes TIME AND AGAIN such a deeply satisfying listen from first note to
last, time and time again.
TIME AND AGAIN features Barry Franklin¹s timeless melodies and inspired
arrangements for piano, acoustic guitar and orchestra. It is
classically-influenced instrumental music with a modern touch that offers a
variety of emotions, moods and textures, all of which sound just rightŠtime
and again.
