Festen dialogue
Fra : Laurent Leconte

Dato : 19-06-04 19:49

Hello all,

I'm not sure this is the right newsgroup to post to, but I got kinda
confused in the dk.* hierarchy. So apologies if this post shouldn't be
here.

Anyway, I'm in a play (Festen) which is based on the movie of the same
name, and we'd like to recite the opening dialogue in Danish. So we're
looking for a Danish-speaking kind soul who could help us with the
translation. Here is the text in English:

When one celebrates one's 60th birthday, one doesn't really have
projects, but if one has lived well -as I have done- one can look
backward as well as forward. One can remember the sad moments as well
as the happy ones, one can be proud of one's family and one tries to
do the utmost to see that one's children get on well in life. And one
hopes that those who are invited will come, and that those who aren't
won't.

If someone can translate this, or has the script of the movie in
Danish, or has the subtitles for the movie (in Danish), it'd be a
great help to all the cast.

Thanks in advance,

--

I haven't got the movie, but here's a translation anyway:

Æ = ae
Å = aa
Ø = oe

Du burde nok snakere skrive tilnærmelsesvis lydskrift, dvs:

Æ like "ai" in "said"
Å like "aw" in "saw"
Ø like "ee" in "see".

Ikke at det hjælper ret meget... Y er også et problem, da rurundede
fortungevokaler ikke kendes på engelsk.

Den passer vist ikke helt. Det må snarere være

Ø like "i" in "first".

Ja.

'savel"...mums!

Do you know how much it would cost for me to send you a copy of the film in
the mail?

Although I don't speak Danish, I think I get the drift of the
discussion... I'm sorry, it's indeed true that that speech isn't in
the film. It was added for the play. That said, thanks to everybody
for their contribution !

Well, I'm sort of concerned how you'll handle the pronounciation. I'm
assuming that nobody in your group has any experience in actually speaking
Danish, so it'll probably sound very different from the way it's supposed
to. Danish is not exactly renowned for being spoken like it's written...
