Here goes:
Due to some problems with Apple's Installer.app I've decided to open up
the distribution somewhat. I've spent an amazing amount of time
tracking down what have so far turned out to be Apple-acknowledged but
somewhat undocumented bugs. Hopefully the combination of options will
allow most people to get this installed.
Option 1:
Try the PithHelmet.mpkg - if it doesn't work (stops at 50% or
says "There were errors installing") try option 2.
Option 2:
Open the Packages folder on the PithHelmet disk image.
Install SIMBL.pkg first - this is required for PithHelmet to
install properly and it requires root authorization.
Install PithHelmet.pkg (note the .pkg extension)
The order of installation is important. If you still have
problems, please record your exact actions and save any log files or
crash reports. You can mail them to <pithhelmet-bug@culater.net>
If you are having trouble, please take the time to visit my development
journal and see if I have mentioned any know issues, bugs or fixes
before taking the time to email me. My notes can be found here

If you think you've really got a problem on your hands, once the
Installer fails, there is a menu item under the File menu called "Show
Log" - if you can include the contents of the log with your email that
would be extremely useful.
