Unfortunately we do not support Windows Media Player or Mac iTunes on
the Radio 3 website.
The BBC has been a pioneer in streaming broadcast output via the web and
is constantly evaluating and testing new technologies.
We have already invested a lot in developing an infrastructure to
deliver streaming content. Real provides a free-to-user cross platform
player and a system which ensures that best quality is delivered to
users.
BBC Radio recognises many users want a choice of format for receiving
live streams. Offering a variety of platform-specific formats is not a
simple or cheap task. Cost-effectiveness is a very important factor in
serving our UK Licence Fee payers. We've given priority to providing a
choice of streaming formats to the new digital radio services: Asian
Network, 1xtra, 6music, BBC7 - these can be heard in both Real Media and
Windows Media Player.
