a couple days ago there was a posting with the same title, where jesper
complained about iTunes 4 not remembering id3-file info.

after using iTunes 4 for a while now i encountered the same problem, and
after 2 days of investigation i found out that some mp3's have 2
different id3-tags attached, one v.1 and one v.2. to fix the problem of
having to enter song information again and again because iTunes can't
seem to remember it is to open the file with an id3-tag editor like iD3X
(get it from versiontracker), and delete the older (v.1) tag.
