FTM - FUNDET PÅ ROOTSWEB -
Fra : kirsten pedersen

Dato : 22-07-02 17:30

venlig hilsen kirsten p

'For those of you using Family Tree Maker, you might be interested in what I
found on my hard drive today. It seems that the new version of FTM 9.0 that
I installed last week has created a file named "aqueduct.txt" in the root
directory of my C: drive. This file contains the following message:

This message is an Aqueduct Software Instrumentation Data File.
It has been automatically generated by a software application
that has been instrumented by an independent software vendor or
internal development group using Aqueduct Software's
Instrumentation library. The data that is being gathered will
be used by the software vendor/group to determine usage patterns
and statistics. For more information contact the software
vendor/group or

Aqueduct Software, Inc.
<http://www.aqueduct.com>
800 Menlo Avenue, Suite 215
Menlo Park, CA 94025
(650) 463-8700

Following this message is a complete log of all my FTM activity plus
information about my system. Things like login name, processor, type of
printer, etc. It also has entries that seem to relate to the operating
environments of MS Office, Netscape, and Eudora, such as company names,
email info, and SMTP hosts.

I'm a software developer and I'm very fussy about security, particularly on
my own equipment. As I recall, I don't remember seeing anything in the
installation process that warned me about this - and I'm always quite
meticulous in looking out for this sort of insidious intrusion.

I don't access the Net from FTM so it's unlikely that any of my critical
information has leaked out, but I thought some of you might be interested
just the same.

Needless to say, I'll be asking a few questions of Genealogy.com and its
owners, the A&E Television Network. No doubt they'll try to convince me that
it's all for my benefit.

Fejlen ER rettet i version 9.0 dateret 31. Oktober 2001.
Aqueduct Software eksisterer IKKE mere.
