quit when a CD was inserted. This was most frequently encountered when
running a Mac OS X program called Sharity and Virtual PC simultaneously.
+ Added fix to improve compatibility of drive images between Virtual PC
4.x and Virtual PC 5.x.
+ New Additions added to fix an issue with screensavers that use Direct
3D.
+ New Additions resolve issues with drag and drop of files from Mac to
Windows.
+ Data DVD-R's can now be read and accessed correctly by Virtual PC.
+ Fixed Virtual Switch incompatibility with Airport in OS X. NOTE: This
fix requires Mac OS X version 10.1.1 and Airport 2.0.
+ Fixed an issue that caused newer machines to hang if they were slept
with Virtual PC running.

WHAT THIS WILL UPDATE

This Updater will only update the Virtual PC for Mac 5.0 application to
Virtual PC 5.0.1.
Please note: The updater will not update any prior versions of Virtual
PC. Users of Virtual PC 1.x, 2.x, 3.x or 4.x should visit the Connectix
web site (
http://www.connectix.com) for upgrade information.

USING THE VIRTUAL PC 5.0.1 UPDATE APPLICATION
__________________________________________________________
1) Place the Virtual PC 5.0.1 Update application on your hard drive.
2) Double-click to launch the Update application.
3) Select "Update." The Update application will update Virtual PC 5.0 to
version 5.0.1 and prompt you to quit when completed. You must restart
your machine when the update has completed.
4) You've now updated to Virtual PC 5.0.1!

UPDATING THE VIRTUAL PC ADDITIONS
__________________________________________________________
The Virtual PC 5.0.1 update includes a new version of the Virtual PC
Additions. The Additions are incorporated into the application itself
so updating your Additions is an easy process. The Additions are
supported in Windows 95, 98, Me, NT 4.0, 2000, XP Home and XP
Professional. Other operating systems are not supported by the Virtual
PC Additions.
The Virtual PC 5.0 Additions are located in an ISO CD image within the
Virtual PC application and are also installed into the Additions folder
located within the Virtual PC Preferences folder on your Macintosh hard
drive. You can automatically mount and launch the Additions installer
in most cases by doing one of the following:
- Clicking "Update" when prompted by Virtual PC to update your
Additions.
- Clicking "Install" when prompted to install Additions on a drive image
that does not contain a version of the Additions (i.e. you installed
your own copy of a Windows operating system).
- Performing a CTRL-Click or Right-Click with the mouse on the Additions
icon in the Virtual PC LED bar (the 7th icon on the right) and choosing
"Install Additions".
The Additions installer will automatically mount and run in Windows to
begin the installation.
*NOTE: The Additions installer does not automatically run in Windows XP
Home or Professional at this time. You must run it manually by
double-clicking on My Computer, then opening the CD by double-clicking
on it and finally double-clicking on "Setup.exe" to launch the
installer.

located in the Technical Notes section of the Connectix online forums
provides more in-depth information and details on some of these issues.
Q: I updated to Mac OS 10.1.2 and get a kernel panic when a PC is
launched in Virtual PC. This problem didn't occur with Mac OS 10.1.1.
What's wrong?
A: There is a known problem with Virtual PC and OS 10.1.2 if you launch
a virtual machine that expects to use the Mac's Ethernet connection and
the cable is not connected. To avoid this, you will need to use Shared
Networking in the PC's settings or make sure your Ethernet cable is
connected if you need to use Virtual Switch. Users may also disable
networking in the PC Settings when it is not needed to avoid this
problem. This issue is not present in OS 10.1.1 and Connectix is
actively working with Apple on a solution.
NOTE: You must make certain that the Ethernet connection is functioning
correctly in Mac OS X by checking the connectivity with a web browser or
other application (besides Virtual PC.)
Q: I'm having problems using Airport with Virtual Switch in Mac OS
10.1.2. Is this a known problem?
A: Yes. The fix implemented in this 5.0.1 update for Virtual Switch
and Airport requires Mac OS 10.1.1 and Airport 2.0. It will not work in
Mac OS 10.1.2 at this time. Connectix is working with Apple on this
issue.
Q: When I wake up my PowerBook after having run Virtual PC in
full-screen mode, the screen is still black and moving the mouse around
causes parts of the desktop to appear behind the mouse cursor. Is there
a workaround for this?
A: The fix implemented for newer machines running Virtual PC may cause
this behavior if Virtual PC was in full-screen mode when the machine was
put to sleep. If you experience this behavior, press the Command key
after waking the machine up and the screen will refresh without any
problems.
Q: I'm having trouble getting Virtual PC to read data off of some
DVD's. Is this expected?
A: Due to the variety of DVD formats and the difference in the models
of DVD drives shipped in Apple machines, some DVD's may not be able to
be read by your machine. In general, make sure that your Mac can read
the DVD by placing it in the drive when Virtual PC is *not* running. If
the Mac is able to mount the disc on the desktop and you can view the
files, then Virtual PC will be able to access data on that disc as well.
However, if the disc will not mount on the Mac, then it's likely that
your drive is not capable of reading that particular DVD and therefore,
Virtual PC will not be able to either.
