Question
I get a CD/DVD Emulation Software Detected error.
Answer
This error is caused by CD Emulator conflicting with the game. Please make sure to uninstall any emulation software you have installed such as:
Clone CD
Nero
Roxio
If this doesn't help or you are unaware of any emulation software, you should first try ending background tasks and processes.
To end background processes in Windows 98/ME:
Press and hold Ctrl, Alt and Delete, then release the keys. This will in turn bring up a window called "Close Programs".
The only two applications that you want listed here before running or installing the game are "explorer" and "systray". Close all other programs by double-clicking on them.
You will need to repeat this process after closing each application. Some applications may take multiple times before closing.
To end background processes in Windows XP:
Press and hold Ctrl, Alt and Delete, then release the keys.
Choose to bring up the Task Manager (if it is not automatic).
Click on the Processes tab.
Click on the column heading called User Name (this will organize the list).
Now check for your user name or the word owner in the User Name list.
For every item next to that name (EXCEPT FOR EXPLORER.EXE and TASKMGR.EXE) click on it, click on End Process, and then click on Yes.
When only EXPLORER.EXE and TASKMGR.EXE are left next to your user name, close the window.
If you continue to get the error, you can try finding and removing the emulator manually.
Go to Start, and then Control Panel.
Open Add/Remove Programs.
Search the list for any abnormal CD/DVD software.
If any are found, you may remove them.
If this fails try the following:
For Windows 98, ME- Download the latest version of DCOM at:
http://www.microsoft.com/com/dcom/dcom98/download.asp
For Windows XP - Download the safedisk patch at:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/release.asp?releaseid=35831
For Windwos 2000 - Download the safedisk patch at:
http://www.macrovision.com/products/safedisc/downloads.shtml
If this still doesn't resolve the issue, please contact your PC manufacturer to resolve the issue.
