On most 386, 486, and some older Pentium Desktop systems, with IDE controller, the
system may hang after installing a hard drive with a capacity greater than 528MB.
On most 486 and some older Pentium Desktop systems, with E-IDE controller, the
system may hang after installing a HDD with capacity greater than 2 GB
Many Pentium desktop systems has limitation of 7.9 GB and 8.4GB
If your system is suspect, (check the attached Web address for list of all Digital
Desktop PCs and their IDE Hard disk size limitation ) , make sure that you obtain
hard drive utility Software from the specific hard drive manufacturer, prior to the
hard disk installation. For these Internet locations, or product support phone numbers,
please contact Digital Equipment Corporation.
Before installing the drive utility software, the desktop system BIOS should set
to USER mode 528MB with Cylinder=1024, Heads=16, Sector-per-track=63
Note: The installation of an additional drive on Digital PC 3010 system requires cable
part number FR-PCXXB-CA for reliable data transfer for two drives configuration

If the HDD size is over the native BIOS disk size limitation
then the disk manager utility (DDO=Dynamic Drive Overlay)
installation is required.
Before installing the DisK Manager, the system BIOS should
be set to "usermode" CHS=1024x16x63
For DIGITAL PC 3010 platform, to add a second IDE drive on the
primary, a 80-conductor cable p/n: FR-PCXXB-CA is required
