Hej,

jeg har slåsset med at få wireles til at fungere i Fedora C6, men uden held.

Det indbyggede kort er Intels 2100 - derfor har jeg installeret ipw2100
driveren vha. yum (fra Livna). Men jeg får hver gang jeg forsøger at
starte eth1, som er mapningen for netkortet en fejl: "Error for wireless
request: "Set Frequency" (8B04): SET failed on device eth1; Operation
not supported.

En gang googling giver mange svar på netop denne fejl, men ingen løsning
- jeg er i hvert fald ikke faldet over en endnu trods besøg på mange
mailinglists og howto'er.

Så har jeg prøvet et Zyxel Zyair B-101 kort. Med det kommer jeg lidt
længere - jeg kan på Access Point (D-link DWL 900 Ap+) se at det
forbinder sig, men selv uden nogen kryptering eller andet forhindring
kan DHCP'en ikke skaffe sig en adresse.

Det skal siges at det indbyggede kort fungerede upåklageligt da Windows
var installeret på den bærbare indtil for nylig.

Jeg har forsøgt at downloade Knoppix, men heller ikke den kan lirke hul
igennem. Jeg kan ikke lige gennemskue om der er andre Live CD distros,
som måske ville være mere velegnet til teste og få viden af til netop
dette formål.

Jeg er meget modtagelig for ideer til løsning af dette irriterende
problem. Det burde være POC - jeg har trods alt kørt Redhat og aflæggere
i mange år nu, men dette var så lige der hvor mine "begrænsede" evner
slog til.

jeg har en ret standard fc6 - uden brug af livna o.a, og jeg bruger ikke
wireless.

Modulet er med standardkernerne.

Det, man henter fra livna, er firmwaren til kortet. Den er uafhængig
af kerneversionen. Modulet kan ikke køre før firmwaren er tilgængelig.

MÃ¥ske findes der en nyere firmware end den, der er hos livna?

Jeg har tidligere haft bøvl med 2100-kortet i forbindelse med en
opdatering. Det viste sig at den nye firmware bleve installere i et
forkert dir.

Da jeg på et tidspunk flyttede dem et niveau op i dir-strukturen virkede
det perfekt.

Er du HELT sikker på det er en 2100? Den model kan også fås med et
a/b/g-kort, og det er efter sigende ikke nemt at få i gang.

Derudover skal du ikke installere driveren fra livna, kun firmwaren.
Det er i al fald det jeg har gjort på en nx8220.

Hvad siger lsmod|grep ipw? dmesg? iwconfig -a?

Så vidt jeg har kunnet finde ud af er det et std. 2100 b kort.

Jeg har /lib/firmware/ipw2100-1.2.1 mappe og samme sted ipw2100-1.3.fw +
nogle andre. Gad vide om det er her problemet ligger. En tidligere
poster nævnte noget om at flytte firmware et trin tilbage i strukturen.

Jamen, det virker jo! Altså bortset fra at den ikke har fundet et
netværk. Men derudover er alting fint. Det er ikke et firmware-issue i
al fald.

Prøv med iwlist eth1 scan.

Eller:

chkconfig NetworkManager on
chkconfig NetworkManagerDispatcher on
/etc/init.d/NetworkManager start
/etc/init.d/NetworkManagerDispatcher start

så kan man bruge network manager til at vælge net,
køre VPN, etc. Det er nemmere at bruge end Windows

det er helt rigtigt - jeg var ikke lige opmærksom på NetworkManager. Nu
har jeg installeret KNetworkManager idet jeg er K-mand.

Fra /var/log/messages har jeg følgende:

Activation (eth1/wireless): association took too long (>20s), asking for
new key.

SÃ¥ vidt jeg lige kan tyde er det noget med at AP tager for lang tid. Jeg
vil søge efter hvor jeg kan ændre den indstilling på 20s.
