Worms like MS-Blaster target a bug in svhost.exe. It sends a special
packet. The packet has to be formed specially for 2K or XP and, if it
sends the wrong one to your system, causes svhost to crash, which can
force a reboot or make you lose copy/paste functionality. Svhost itself,
though, is NOT a virus. A virus wouldn't announce itself with a nice
error message stating its name.

This worm has affected me a lot and one cannot get rid of this worm even
after formatting of hard disk as in my case. Last night my pc was
infected and I was unable to cut, copy or paste any file. it generates
error like "SVCHOST.exe has generated errors and will be close down"
after this no cut, copy, paste operation can be done and every program
crashes.
REMOVAL OF WORM CAN BE DONE AS UNDER
This worm dosen't allow to run any program for a long period and
antivirus programs are useless. So in order to prevent this first change
the Startup type of RPC (Remote procedural call) to "DISABLE". Then
download the security patch from microsoft.
Before installing security patch first make sure that atleast service
pack 2 is installed on Win 2000 machine then Install the security patch
and everything will be normal.
