The Rantzow or Rantzau-family is an old noble family, original from
Holstein in northern Germany - known since the early 14th century.
During the last decades of the 17th century members of the family moved
to Denmark, and got high positions in the very German-oriented Danish
government. The most impressive persons in the family lived allthough in
the mid 16th century beeing very skilled military leaders helping the
Danish kings in several wars.
In the socalled "Danmarks Adels Aarbog", - "Annual book of Danish
nobility" there is a description of the family. Unfortunately the last
version of this family is printed in 1930. However, a newer of those
books, that I have in my Library, tells that Ludwig von Rantzow was the
last man of his line in Denmark, and he died august 29th 1941, but not
where. There is a reference to the 1930-volume of the Annual book as
well.
I shall try to look it up, if you want to.
Yours sincerely
Peter Kristiansen
